Ok, the truth is you're more likely to be wearing these walking down to Tesco's, rather than on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. But you'll still appreciate the warmth they'll offer in the face of a chill autumn wind. Not to mention the opportunity to look a bit like a young Paul Newman.

The Rum Diary

Some production shots from the forthcoming Johnny Depp movie, The Rum Diary. Directed by Withnail's Bruce Robinson, the Rum Diary is based on the Hunter S Thompson novel and set in Puerto Rico during the sixties. Judging from the shots, Depp is looking very well groomed and not at like Captain Jack.

Vintage Rolex GMT Master 6542

Saw this 1960s Rolex 6542 (the model without the crown guards) at a shopping centre in Malaysia while I was on holiday recently. It was being sold at the bargain price of just £6450 (converted from Malaysian currency). If I'd had the money I would have bought it on the spot. Anyway I went back a few days later and it had been sold.

Cheese Gromit!

Taken at Marylebone's La Fromagerie, a veritable cheese heaven, with walk-in cold storage stacked to the rafters with little fermented curds of every description.

James Dean's Red Harrington

The red Harrington style jacket worn by James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause has to be one of the most iconic pieces of movie clothing ever worn, ranking alongside Brando's Perfecto in The Wild One, Bogey's trenchcoat in Casablanca and Bruce Lee's yellow catsuit in Game of Death. Walking past Albam's store front in Soho today, I noticed they've now starting selling a new range of Harringtons in different colours, including one in a Rebel red.

I haven't the guts to wear the red one personally, as I feel you'd have to look every bit as good as the Deanster to carry it off, but I must admit that I do still love the look of it.
