"I may be some time..."
A great photo, with a surprisingly contemporary feel to it, of Captain Lawrence Oates who died during Scott's attempt to reach the South Pole in 1912. Afflicted with gangrene and frostbite, Oates made the ultimate act of self-sacrifice, walking from his tent into a blizzard.

Studio D'Artisan Indigo Sweatshirt
This is a great looking sweatshirt, from the Osaka-based Studio D'Artisan. It's nicely detailed with a slightly boxy finish and the indigo colour is one of the nicest I've seen recently. Available from Superdenim.

John Stezaker
I've been following collage artist John Stezaker for the last couple of years. Now in his mid-sixties, Stezaker creates collages using a variety of images which he juxtaposes in a witty, but slightly disturbing way. Film stills, publicity shots postcards and other ephemera are all sliced up and re-mixed for maximum visual effect. Recently he had a retrospective at the Whitechapel and I came away wishing I'd bought some of his work when it was still relatively inexpensive. Now he's won the Deutsche Börse photography prize, I should imagine the prices have gone through the roof. Anyway, here are some of the works that helped him win his recent award.

The cheapest military-style watch you can buy?
Love the simplicity of Urban Outfitters' Classic Field Watch which comes on a nato strap (personally I think it'd look a whole lot better on plain grey though). But the best thing about it is the fact it costs only £28. Yes, I know it's not a Cyma or a Benrus or even a Timex. But at these prices who cares? You can do the gardening or paint the shed while wearing it, with a clear conscience.

Replica XKSS

Here's another excuse to post some pictures of the beautiful XKSS, or to be more precise a couple of XKSS replicas that are up for sale right now. While they don't carry the million pound-plus price tag of the originals, these finely crafted reproductions still range from the £150,000 to the £250,000 mark. Just the thing to spend your end of year bonus on.
For sale through RM Auctions and The Old Racing Car Company.

S.E.H Kelly Grey Donegal wool cardigan

Another minimal piece from S.E.H Kelly, a grey button-up Donegal wool cardigan with hidden placket and large hip-height patch pockets. It comes in charcoal grey with white and grey flecks running through it. A bit like the model's hair in fact.

Albam's new web photography

A welcome addition to Albam's website is some new photography, which features the clothing being worn by a model instead of being displayed on a coat hanger. Far preferable if you ask me. Albam make some great stuff, which looks even better on real people.

Folk AW11 Wool Overcoat
This one's a beaut. Available in charcoal, midnight, stone and white (not sure about that last one), Folk's Wool Overcoat makes a nice alternative to the ubiquitous peacoat this season.

Deck Jackets for AW11

Ok, the truth is you're more likely to be wearing these walking down to Tesco's, rather than on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. But you'll still appreciate the warmth they'll offer in the face of a chill autumn wind. Not to mention the opportunity to look a bit like a young Paul Newman.

The Rum Diary

Some production shots from the forthcoming Johnny Depp movie, The Rum Diary. Directed by Withnail's Bruce Robinson, the Rum Diary is based on the Hunter S Thompson novel and set in Puerto Rico during the sixties. Judging from the shots, Depp is looking very well groomed and not at like Captain Jack.
